🔒 CrowdStrike Update Causes Global Outage🔒
A massive outage left employees worldwide facing the « blue screen of death. » CrowdStrike’s Falcon Sensor update malfunctioned, affecting Windows systems globally. While a fix is proposed, its implementation is causing issues, especially in large companies and devices with DLP solutions.
“This is basically what we were all worried about with Y2K, except it’s actually happened this time,” said internet security analyst Troy Hunt.
The outage affected Microsoft’s Windows 365 Cloud PCs, apps, and services. With Microsoft holding over 72% market share, hundreds of thousands of outages were reported, including 311,000 global reports in 16 hours. Major disruptions hit Sky News, the London Stock Exchange, and Baltic shipping.
CrowdStrike identified the issue as a software glitch and has withdrawn the problematic file. A workaround is available, and systems brought online after 1:27 a.m. ET Friday are unaffected. Recovery might take days due to the issue’s complexity. Mac and Linux systems were not affected.
